The Piercy's Patent Thimble

The "Piercy's Patent" thimble, keenly sought after by collectors and seldom seen. The body is tortoiseshell with an applied royal crest and emblems in gold; the top is capped in silver. Although hardly a practical design its manufacture was the subject of an 1816 patent granted to John Piercy. This also covered other materials such as turtle shell, horn and leather.
This example is in perfect condition and dates from around 1820.
