The Piercy's Patent Thimble |
The "Piercy's Patent" thimble, keenly sought after by collectors and seldom seen. The body is tortoiseshell with an applied
royal crest and emblems in gold; the top is capped in silver. Although hardly a practical design its manufacture was the subject of an 1816 patent granted to John Piercy.
This also covered other materials such as turtle shell, horn and leather. |
